In fall 2016, Avenues welcomes Carlene Bauer as a High Intensity Practice (HIP) writing teacher in the Upper Division. The HIP writing program, now in its second year at Avenues, is based on the belief that the best strategy for cultivating lasting skill in a discipline is to pair sustained effort with appropriate coaching. Students are asked to spend focused time throughout the week writing on a variety of prompts and questions designed to promote cognitive flexibility and build fluency and confidence in writing.
